At Christmas:Recipes and homemade presents

We’ve already given you a list of the many things for your pets to avoid this Christmas.
That’s the naughty list, but now we have compiled a nice list of some pet friendly baking recipes for your dogs, cats and rabbits.

For your dogs why not try this recipe from the RSPCA for these tasty DIY Dog biscuits;

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C.
  • Add 1 cup of whole wheat flour.
  • Add half a cup of creamy peanut butter – NB Make sure this doesn’t contain Xylitol or Artificial Sweeteners as this is toxic for your dog.
  • Add ¼ of a cup of mashed banana.
  • Add ¼ cup of vegetable stock.
  • Stir well until combined and the mixture has formed a dough.
  • Flour your work surface and roll out your dough evenly with a rolling pin until it is ¼ inch thick.
  • Cut out shapes with a cookie cutter and place on an ungreased baking tray.
  • Bake for 18 minutes until the biscuits are golden brown.
  • Allow the biscuits to cool and then your treats are ready for your dog to try.

For your cats, here’s another recipe from the RSPCA for cat friendly treats;

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C.
  • Add 2 cups of whole wheat flour.
  • Add 280g of chopped RSPCA assured salmon.
  • Add 1 large RSPCA assured egg.
  • Stir well until combined and the mixture has formed a dough.
  • Flour your work surface and mould your mixture into a ball.
  • Roll out with a rolling pin until it is ¼ inch thick.
  • Cut out shapes with a tiny cookie cutter.
  • Place on an ungreased baking tray.
  • Bake for 20 minutes until the treats are golden brown.
  • Allow to cool sufficiently and then your feline friend can try them out.

For your rabbits we found a recipe for homemade treats from the House Rabbit Society;

  • Mix 1 small pureed carrot with ½ mashed creamy banana
  • Add 1 tablespoon of honey and mix well
  • Use a coffee grinder to grind a ¼ of a cup of rabbit pellets and ¼ of a cup of ground oats to a fine powder.Mix until blended.
  • Knead in your hands for 1-2 minutes.
  • Roll out the mixture into 1/8 -1/4 inch thick between sheets of plastic wrap.
  • Cut into small cookies (3/4 inch across).
  • Place onto a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper.
  • Bake on 160°C for 30 minutes until they are golden brown.
  • Allow them to cool.
  • Remember these are treats so give them to your rabbits sparingly!

Thank you to the RSPCA and House Rabbit Society for these recipes for our pampered pets.
