We all SteppedUp and SteppedOut on Saturday 5th October 2019. A big thank you to everyone who joined in, walking, sponsoring our pups and donating to our walk. Helping us raise a staggering £931.50
Our first Hike for Hounds sponsored walk to leave from our new Rehoming and Education Centre.
Unlike last year, the weather was dry but there had been torrential rain leading up to the day. This had caused some of our usual routes to be flooded and a little more dangerous to walk with a large group.
It was decided to alter our routes this year and we offered 3 mile and 7 mile options to the participants.
A big shout out to Bexon’s Munch Box for donating the tasty breakfast cobs and opening on a Saturday especially for us. Each and every hiker sends you their profound gratitude.
Refreshments for the hike were kindly donated by members of the public and by Morrisons at Gamston. Thank you to everyone who donated snacks and drinks they were very welcome on our way round the hike.
After coffee , we were briefed on the plans for today and the centre pups were brought to the hikers who would walk with them for a few hours.
The walk began by leaving the Centre towards Radcliffe led by our guide for the day, Anna !
We then proceeded down The Green and Holme Lane as far as Holme Pierrepont Hall.
After a brief stop for a group photo, the 3 mile hikers headed back up Sandy lane to return to the Centre.
The 7 milers continued down Holme Lane and into the Water Sports Centre. Once again , we had chosen the same Saturday as the ‘Rat Race’, an endurance race going round the lake. It certainly made us feel better on our walk because it could have been so much worse if we had been taking part!!
The 5km walk around the lake ended up at the main entrance to the centre where humans and dogs shared a welcome drink of water and a snack. However, not before we had to take a detour because the rowing lake was flooded! No , I am not joking, have a look in the Hike for Hounds photo gallery
Back on the road we arrived back at the animal centre at approximately 12:30 p.m. We collected our goodies bags, posed for one last photo in front of the main doors, and the pups were returned to their kennels. Although some managed to take some toys from the goodies bags with them.
A massive thank you to all our hikers, 2 legged and 4 legged , who took part and raised much needed funds for the animals here at the Centre.
If you haven’t yet sponsored or donated to Hike for Hounds 2019 ,it’s not too late to sponsor our pups in their step up and out efforts by clicking on the button below and making a donation via PayPal or by using your credit/debit card. THANK YOU.
We thought you would like to see some photos from the day so we have created a Hike for Hounds photo gallery.
Enjoy the photos and thanks again to all our hikers, volunteers, staff and donator’s who made this such a successful event.
